Chaika Performing Ensemble
The Chaika Performing Ensemble has thrilled audiences worldwide and won recognition and praise with their memorable performances throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. Created in 1957 under the auspices of the Hamilton Branch of the Ukrainian National Federation, Chaika has been dedicated to the development of Ukrainian folk song and dance. http://www.chaika.ca/

 

 

 

 

 

Liza Zienchuk - Youth Performance MC

Liza is this year's Master of Ceremonies for the Youth Program. She is an active 16 year old who has recently graduated from the Tsiopa Palijiw saturday Ukrainian school. She is a long time dancer with the Ukraina School of Arts, and is a member of both PLAST and CYMK. This year she has started volunteering as a reporter with the KONTAKT Ukrainian Television Network.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mark Czupiel

Mark Czupiel is a 9 year old boy who is passionate about singing and performing on the stage. He takes vocal lessons and is part of the vocal group “Melodia “ under the direction of Oksana Zelinska. He has performed at the Carassauga Festival of Cultures for the last two years and at various venues at St.Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Mississauga such as Yarmarok and other religious events.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Marko Dwulit

Marko is a fun, loving, bright and caring boy. As his mom says he is a very nice kid to have around the house. He likes to explore new things. He enjoys playing baseball as well as guitar, but not as much as he loves to sing. He has sang at many various venues such as, Svyato Vesny, Svyato Knyzhky, Svyata Pokrova church, events at Sokil in Hawkestone, in Cuba and at last year's Toronto Ukrainian Festival. He has a CD with 7 songs on it and has sold over 105 copies. He wouldn't stop singing for anything and thanks everyone for the encouragement.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mriya

The Duet, Mriya, is a newly formed duet with a deep patriotic love for their native land. Solomiya Salamaszek and Julia Zadorozhna desired to safeguard their Ukrainian heritage and language by sharing the beauty and treasures of Ukrainian songs with all audiences. The girls have been members of the Ukrainian Youth Ensemble 'Prolisok' for many years. Mriya's euphonious voices bring you the echoes of the great Karpaty Mountains and the harmonious waters of the river Dnipro.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Natalia Terek

Natalia Terek is 13 years old. She grew up in Mississauga and is very active within the Ukrainian community. Natalia is part of the Ukrainian singing group Melodia, she dances in Barvinok, attends St. Sofia Ukrainian School and goes to Ukrainian Saturday school. She is also training to be a lifeguard.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Olenka Pankiw

Olenka is 14 years old and has been singing since the age of two. Everyone in her family comes from a musical background. She is part of the youth group, Melodia. She dances in the Ukrainian Dance school, Barvinok. Olenka sings at many different events and festivals such as the Ukrainian music festival (where she placed as a finalist), Yarmarok Christmas Bazaar at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church, and Carrassauga Festival of Cultures (Ukraine Pavilion). She likes to sing traditional Ukrainian songs and she plays the piano and the clarinet. She also loves to travel, study different languages and experience new and different things.

 

 

 

 

 

Poca-The Dew

Nature’s fresh morning sparkle captures the essence of “Poca”, the young, talented vocal quartet from Montreal. Katrusia and Dania Kolanitch, Natalia Bedik and Sonia Kulycky are ready to “wow” their audience through their performance of Ukrainian song in captivating harmonies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rezonans Children's Performing Studio

Children's Performing Studio "Rezonans" was established in 2008 by Voldoymyr and Iryna Kokhanovskyy in Lviv. This year, Studio "Rezonans" began its work in Toronto, debuting for the first time at St. Demetrius Church during the Easter Season with a wonderfully choreographed "Velyka Hayyka". The Studio's director Volodymyr Kokhanowskyy has composed and written his own original music and lyrical repertoire for the enrichment of children ages 3-12. These talented, young singers of the studio take an active role in music and artistic events in the Ukrainian Community. They performed at the 7th Annual Ukrainian Canadian Music Festival "Zolotyj Klen", at the "Ivana Kupala" festivities, and they participated in the musical component of the Ukrainian Independence Day Celebrations in Centennial Park. http://www.studiorezonans.ca/

 

 

 

 

Roman and Theodore Pucak

Brothers Roman and Theodore Pucak are students at St. Sofia School, members of the Ukrainian Youth Association and singers with the vocal youth group Melodia. Both enjoy being on stage. Roman plays trumpet with the Baturyn marching band, and both brothers play piano. Theodore has been singing since the age of 5, and has performed at many festivals in the GTA and music competitions, such as the Ukrainian Music Festival, where he received scholarships and performed at the finalist concerts 4 years in a row. He is also an actor, and appeared in short films, movies, TV commercials, and performed on stage in theater productions in Toronto, Mississauga and Milton.

 

 

 

 

 

Saivo

"Saivo” is composed of Ivanna and Solomiya Salo. The sisters are originally from Lviv, Ukraine. Ever since the girls came to Canada, they continue getting in touch with their Ukrainian roots. Michael Romaniuk has helped them experiment with new and innovative music styles by accompanying them with musical arrangements for their songs. The duet has shared their artistic passion throughout performances at many festivals and concerts, including audiences in Canada, United States and Germany. In their love for song and the beautiful music of Ukraine, Ivanna and Solomiya continue to touch and enlighten the hearts of their listeners. Their wish is to share, preserve and convey the wonderful soul of Ukrainian song.

 

 

 

 

 

Ukrainian Academy of Dance

The Ukrainian Academy of Dance was founded in 1987 in Toronto, Canada, as a Ukrainian folk-dance school for ages 3 to adult. The Academy is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The dancers performing at the festival have been chosen from The Ukrainian Academy of Dance and range in age from 7 – 14. This ensemble group has performed in Montréal at The Children’s Festival (La Fete des Enfants de Montreal), the CNE, the Toronto Christmas Market, Disneyworld and most recently in Sherbrooke Quebec at Le Festival des traditions du monde. http://www.ukrainianacademyofdance.com/

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ukrainian School of Dance (Ykraina)

The Ukrainian School of Dance is honoured to be celebrating its 15th anniversary this year as part of the GTA’s Ukrainian cultural community. The school offers a challenging dance program for dancers of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and emphasizes the development of both the artistic and technical abilities of students with the aim to promote a superior level of traditional Ukrainian dance. The school’s Artistic Directors, Lesia and Valeriy Movtchan, are thankful for the assistance and support they receive from their dedicated choreographic, staging and teaching assistants, their administrative assistants, their students and the communities who invite them to perform. The school enjoys capturing performance invitations and strives to provide exciting and enjoyable performances for audiences everywhere. The school is especially honoured to have been invited back to Ukraine next summer and is actively planning its performance itinerary.

 

 

Voloshky - Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School
"Voloshky" is a group made up of 9-11 year olds who are part of the Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School under the direction of Pahn Fedir Danylak. Most of the children in this group have been dancing for 4 years and have a wonderful repertoire of Ukrainian dancing. They have danced for the Consul General of Ukraine, Carrassauga and have also been featured on Kontakt and Svitohliad on several occasions.
